Bios virus infection?

Hi,
My computer have been acting so strange for 2 months already, and I have reformatted my hd over 20 times over the time. I am suspecting that a virus has been embedded to the bios. But apparantly, I am not quite sure. I run norton anti virus every single day and I don't seem to have any virus problem on my hd.
I am just wondering if there is a way I can check whether it is a bios issue,
and if it is, is there a way I can fix it? I called these It people, and the price is ridiculous. $75Us an hour? So thats about 500US just to rebuild
a home system and yet, they may not know anything but refomatting my hd like what I did. Please help if you can. Thank you.
