USB boot from BIOS

Does anyone know how to boot from USB from BIOS, if the option is not there? Some computers have this option and some dont...is there any way to switch on a command or something to boot from USB in BIOS?

I think some BIOS upgrades can add this functionality, but since as I understand it this is a relatively new thing that you can do during boot time, you are probably to some extent lucky if you have a board that has an update available to provide this, unless you have a fairly new board.
