System clock running fast

LS,
My Inspiron 1150 crashed and I removed the battery and the power cord.
Trying to restart failed at first with a bios message that the memory changed (?)
After cooling down the computer started but now the BIOS clock is running like mad.
I can set the hours and the date but the minutes keep counting like seconds and I cannot set them.
Setting the XP time using an internet clock normally fixes the problem for most programs but those using the systemclock is is a problem (my AVG virus checker seemsto recognize a problem with the clock and is alwyas out of date)
I downloaded and ran the latest BIOS flash update but to no avail.
Anybody a clue what I could do to fix this problem.
Regards
Karel
