My computer can't detect the 40 GB Maxtor or IBM 20,5GB hard drive. I suspect I need to upgrade my BIOS?

Where can I find an upgrade for this Award BIOS?

BIOS ID: 01/27/1999-i440LX-W977TF-2A69JS20C-0
BIOS Date: 01/27/1999
BIOS Type: BIOS v. 4.51 PG
Motherboard: Soyo SY-6KE

Award Modular BIOS v. 4.51 PG
Award Plug and Play BIOS Extension v. 1.0 A

I tried to upgrade with this files on Soyo webside:
http://www.soyo.com/content/Downloads/1 ... &l=English

But na error shows

The program file's part number deos not match whit your system.

If anyone could find an upgrade for my BIOS i would be very thankful

If you cannot detect the 20,5 GB drive with a 1999 Award BIOS I think you have a problem that is not related to the BIOS. May I suggest you re-check the drive jumpers and cables, and try substituting cables, trying only one drive at a time, with the BIOS set to auto-detect the drive.

I tried different settings of jumpers and i changed the cable, but it still does not recognize the disk. But when i used 6.5GB disk the bios recognize it normally. I used auto-detection.

The IBM disk has different settings of jumpers.

16 heads or 15 heads
Device 0 (master) - main disk
Device 1 (slave) - second disk
Cable select - ????????
Device 1 (slave) present - ?????????

2GB clip or Avto spin disable
Device 0 (master) - main disk
Device 1 (slave) - second disk
Cable select - ????????
Device 1 (slave) present - ?????????

Can someone explain me this settings (2GB clip or Avto spin disable, Cable select, Device 1 (slave) present )

thanks
