i found the the bios and but, the flash utility confuses me and is dos which will in now way run under Windows 7. it doesn't recognized the hdd but, the ubuntu install can install it i think it hang right when it checks the mirror too or or it id finish in stalling when i wasn't paying attention but, every time i reboot it can to find the the hdd and wants to boot from the cd rom. If some could give me all the files from a completed update flash floppy i would like that very much, i know thats wee but to ask for i but the flash utility is dos and i can't make the floppy that way.

you are somewhat confusing as well. if you want to flash a newer bios on this board it has to be done in DOS. Because the board is that old, there's only a DOS flasher for this bios.

So, what do you need exactly again?

a completed flash floppy. i out one of these in it i think it may work better doing the old way the the fc-pga2 adapter but using the bare cpu you can over clock it!!!!

I think the flash will clear up any problems.
glad to see the boards still alive. :)

for a bootdisk you can check www.bootdisk.com
to make an usb stick bootable you can use Windows or your ubuntu live/installation cd. there are numberous howtos through all the web. just make sure your mainboard supports booting from usb.

to make your board boot from hdd make sure the ide ports are activated, the hdd is recognized in the bios (not set to NONE or DISABLED) and the hdd is first in the boot-order.

the fact that ubuntu recognizes the hdd tells me that:
1. the hdd is in working order
2. the cabling is okay
3. the ide controller is working

well when it says detecting ide drives it sits then ask to boot from cd but i think this is becasue ubuntu never finishes the install because when it checks the mirror AFTER copying all the files over it hangs the other thing is the bios locks up when i switch screens this cpu is a funny bunny think i'll just go the old way with an adapter and try that.

also i like your avatar did you make it?

well that was a waste of time.

EDIT i figured it out i took a floppy of my choice and formatted it as dos boot disk and copied the aflash ans bios file too it then booted it and all the instruction clicked into place. And well it's kind of fun usinf floppys disk and typing in dos commands feels kind hacker like. :D

for those of us long enough around to actually using DOS daily, back in the days, it feels like, well, DOS :D

Good to see you figured it out.
