Have searched high and low about this, but have only found misleading info so far. Need to upgrade my bios due to buying a new 80gb hd which my current bios won't recognise... :?

Code in bottom-left when computer is turned on:

09/09/1998-i440BX-W977TF-2A69KC39C-00

Have extablished it's made by chaintech, but their websites seem hopeless. Please help if you can, thanks in advance :)

I've known most Chaintech boards to have a little sticker with the model number on them.

It looks you have same chipsets as my mobo. I just installed a 60GB HD without upgrading BIOS. Go to IBM Website, from their Service & Download site download the utility program called Disk Manager 2000. The utility will using Dynamic Drive Overlay(DDO) to help old system to recognize disk's full capacity.

But if you like your data, get a BIOS update.
