Vision Top (Otto) appears to be the manufacturer - I have a VT586TX. Vision Top is defunct. Check back in a while to see if we can find any links to a newer BIOS.

In my beta BIOS collection, I have found an update for your board:

12/22/97-i430VX-ITE8680-2A59GV5FC-00

I've just checked this beta, and it does support HDDs upto 32GB.... good news!!

Now, please check whether your super I/O controller chip is in fact an ITE8680.

But... what you have to tell us is how big is the HDD you're planning to install. If it's over 32GB, we'll have to patch it for you.

OK, back at work now....my VT586TX didn't work when I turned it on - panic! I must have flashed the wrong BIOS into it last time I was using it for hot flashing. I sorted that out using "VT586TX VER:4.14", ID 06/13/97-i430TX-2A59IV59C-00.

I also have "VT586TX VER:4:20" from PorcelainGod, ID 09/05/97-i430TX-ITE8679-2A59IV59C-00, but someone else asked me for 4.14 after flashing his board with 4.20 stopped it working, so I have not tried that yet.

Nick... weird... same BIOS ID, but perhaps different I/O.
Here's what I've got for "V5" (betas):

12/02/97-i430TX-W83977TF-2A59IV59C-00

11/05/97-i430TX-ITE8679-2A59IV5AC-00

11/05/97-i430TX-ITE8679-2A59IV5BC-00

11/27/97-i430TX-ITE8679-2A59IV59C-00 (this one was called 2A59IV5C by Award. Perhaps it was designed for a particular revision of the VT586TX, and that's why it includes the 2A59IV59C segment).

Note: the only difference between V5A and V5B is that the latter supports a system monitor (CPU temp).

So, would you like to try out the beta? Do you have the Winbond or the ITE?

I wonder why the other guy had a problem with 09/05/97-i430TX-ITE8679-2A59IV59C-00.

I've got ITE, so I would be interested to try 11/27/97-i430TX-ITE8679-2A59IV59C-00, if you could email it to me. Are there any release notes ?

Sorry, I have no release notes for any of my betas. It sure would have been useful... I have exactly 3,556 beta BIOSes... :(

OK, I received 11/27/97-i430TX-ITE8679-2A59IV59C-00, patched it for HDD up to 128 Gb and flashed it. The board starts up OK, recognises and boots from my IBM 40Gb drive. I really need to do a clean install to check it out completely, but all the signs are good.

I've emailed chakotey2003 to ask how his upgrade went.
