my current bios doesn't recognise my maxtor 7200 80gb hd which has just been hooked up as a slave to my current maxtor 20gb 5400. my system is a defunct Quantex PIII500

this is what my bios is
5/31/99-i440bx-smc60x-2a69kb0c c-00
my manual says the board is a M6TBA (according to the board itself-its v 1.4)

now I know that 2a69k=intel 440 bx chipset
and that b0=biostar
and i know its using award v4.51pg

now if i go to biostar.usa or .tw then the update FOR THE M6TBA board, update bios is dated 23/2/99 which seems useless, also biostar doesn't list v 1.4 board only the v1.1-1.3 (file tba1124b.exe)

having been to bios-driver as well. there is a file listed as AWDFH752.zip, which almost fits my configuration, but not enough detail to confirm that it is the right file to flash my bios

nothing on google either

anyone know where to get a flash .bin file? I have already downloaded the flasher file from biostar.

I can have a go at patching your current BIOS if you would like to send it to me.

The latest 128K BIOS is 02/23/1999-i440BX-SMC60X-2A69KB0CC-00
The latest 256K BIOS is 11/24/1999-i440BX-SMC60X-2A69KB0CC-00

If you have 256KB Flash ROM chip on your board, the new BIOS will support HDDs up to 128GB!

@Rainbow: didn't you patch the M6TBA 128K BIOS for Zach Payne? see http://www.wimsbios.com/phpBB2/viewtopi ... highlight= but I couldn't find it on the "Patched BIOS" list so perhaps he hasn't confirmed correct operation ?

following that link from Zach's problems am I right in saying that the BIOSTAR website has 2 bios updates which have the dates mixed up e.g.

tba0223.exe updated "1999/11/29" for v1.2 boards and previous

tba1124.exe updated "1999/02/23" for v1.3 boards and above (e.g mine)

I take it the updated dates are the wrong way around as the file names suggest that
tba1124.exe should be update from 1999/11/29?

would this tba1124.exe file support 80gbHD? and what is the difference between this and awdfh752.zip?

I already have awdflash.exe

Yes, tba1124.exe supports HDDs up to 128GB. It's BIOS. awdfh752.zip is flasher.

EXCELLENT

Thanks for all your help, my bios is now updated, and it went pretty smoothly!

shame biostar can't keep their own files correctly labelled.

my new hard drive is now more than just a block of black plastic!

thanks
