I bougth a Seagate 40 GB disk and installed it in a Leadtek WinFast.
The CMOS configuration cannot be manually adjusted so I left it AUTO.

The disk can boot but I only get 38 GB of disk space.

Do you think I need a BIOS update? I can't find any at Leadtek web. Seagate tools say disk is ok and 40 GB but win XP only gets 38.

BIOS Date: 09/23/99
BIOS Type: Award Modular BIOS v4.51PGM
BIOS ID: 09/23/1999-693-596B-8673-7000VX..C
BIOS Eval: Leadtek Research Inc. WinFast 7000VX. Date : 09-23-1999
Chipset: VIA 82C691 rev 68
Superio: ITE 8673 rev 1 found at port 279h

Thanks in advance. 8)

There's no problem :
HDD manufacturer are counting 1MB as 1000 KB and 1GB as 1000Mb but the computer world counts 1MByte as 1024KByte and 1GByte as 1024MByte .
