hello,
i have a MSI 6117 Ver1.1 motherboard with an AWARD BIOS (Winbound W29C020-90 Flash).
The HDD Seagate ST340016A (40GB) is only recognized with a 32GB limit-jumper. And then it works.
I tried to upgrade with original MSI BIOS W617MS32 (for 2MB-Flash).
But every time there comes a message: ...doesn´t match with your System..
What can i do? or is this an handycap of the motherboardhardware??
greetings
mm

The BIOS chip you have (29C020) is a 2 Mbit (256 KByte) chip. If the BIOS you have downloaded is a 128 KByte BIOS, like the one at http://http://wims.rainbow-software.org, the flash utility will complain.

Does the BIOS ID you posted have a date in front of it ?

Latest 2 Mbit (256Kbyte) BIOS for MSI MS-6117 is 3.2 - I have patched it to support 128 Gb using Rainbow's patcher and will post it at the link in my signature for testing in a few minutes.
Remember:
- you flash at your own risk
- read and follow the flash utility instructions.
- please let me know how you got on via the Wim's BIOS forum.
- remember that you may need to run the HDD manufacturer's utility to reduce the transfer rate of a UDMA66 or UDMA100 drive to UDMA33. See the post "links to ATA mode setting utilities" in the "Collected Wisdom" forum

hi nicks,

i´m sorry, but with your patched file it´s the same: ...it doesn´t match with your system....
I use the Award Memory Writer 5.35. It is within the bios.exe file from MSI.
Do i have to do anything at the hardware like pull jumper or somthing?

OK, the ID string is slightly different - yours (according to your header) says "2A69JM49C" and the one on the MSI website (and thus on the patched BIOS) says "2A69JM49DC". This is enough to upset the flash utility. You could try Uniflash.

I can't find that BIOS ( 06/04/98 ) - are you sure this is MS-6117 ?
(Must be - can't find another match)

hello nicks,

yes, these datas are correct. Between the PCI-Slot 1 + 2 stands: MS6117 VER1.1. The Biosno. is like the posting above.
Now i tried it with UniFlash, but after flashing there is an alert: Flashed datas are not the same like the file from disc.
Could it be, that there is an writing protection in that bios-chip?
What will happen, when i delete the CMOS-data and Bootblockdata. Are these data within the biosupdate file?

..and many thanks for that great support

What's the OEM ID message at the top of screen (under Award... texts) during POST? (something like "W6117MS V3.2 121098")

hi rainbow,

it died in my arms tonight!!! in the description of that motherboard you can read:...Short Pin 1-2 if you want to flash the BIOS. Ah, ok-that´s the problem. I did it and after powered up smoke came out of the Chip named Intel PCIset. Thank you, MSI.
Now i have to buy another one- ebay! here i am.
And to you: many thanks for that great forum and special to you "nicks" for your fast replies. When i will have another problem with my BIOS i will call.
greetings
