40GB: P/I-P6NP5

I build in my computer a 40 GB HDD WD400. it was not recognized.
In addition I flashed my BIOS AWARD 4.51PG 0106 -> 0116.
The systen is hanging after the HDD- detection.
Is anybody there who can help me.
