Hi,

I am trying to add a Seagate 40gb ST340016A-RK drive that is not recognized by this old bios.

It shows as a SuperMicro MoBo , but they show no update for this.

output from AMI Utility:

An AMIBIOS ID String Was Detected:
51-01010006389-00111111-071595-I430TX
-- ---- ------ ------

Manufacturer Code Detected: 6389 - SuperMicro

Thanks,

Don

SuperMicro P5MMS98 board.
Tried entering HDD parameters manually?

Some BIOSes here http://www.supermicro.com/TECHSUPPORT/BIOS/bios.htm

Tried that ...

Tried that... with no luck...

should this bios handle it already?

if so I could take parameters from other pc with same drive.

I would guess the BIOS string indicates this BIOS is 15 July 1995 - not much chance of it handling 40 Gb.
[update] I'm informed that date applies to the BIOS kernel, although whether the Int13h processing could be later I'm not sure.

Must not be a kernel problem - INT13 programming might be faulty .
MSI has the same kernel in MS-5169 and latest official 3.7 Bios has some problems with drives over 32 or over 64GB - corrected with 3.8 Beta using same 07/15/1995 kernel.

Useful knowledge, thanks Denniss.
