Greeting,
I wonder if anyone has the update for this BIOS:

BIOS Date: 05/22/98
BIOS Type: Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
BIOS ID: 05/22/1998-i440LX-SMC67X-2A69JECBC-00
BIOS Eval: KL21 BIOS ROM Ver.1.2 07/14/1998
Chipset: Intel 440EX/LX rev 3
Superio: SMC 67x rev 1 found at port 3F0h

I tried the ENPC site and found many KL21 files but I am not sure which one, if any, I have to use. Here is the page I reached:

the guys at www.esupport.com told me I needed part number F2A69JECB
Can anyone direct me to the place of the file and which bin file I should use to flash the bios?

Is that the latest one available? It is only 6 months younger than the one I have. Shouldn't there be a more recent one?
Do you or anyone have a spec of this BIOS version?, meaning, what kind of HD it supports etc.
Is it worth the effort of upgrading to this one?

If they have not sold the board for a couple of years, it is very unlikely that they will carry on updating the BIOS.

Rainbow's BIOS fix utility says that it has the Award "32GB" bug, so will only support HDD up to 32GiB (33Gbytes).

Is it worth the effort of upgrading to this one?

Rainbow said, if it does not support large HDDs it should be possible for us to fix it so that it does. If you want large HDD support on this system then it is worth the effort to upgrade. Only you can decide whether it is worth putting an large drive on an old system, but many people have done.

Aren't they all good for the board that I have? I'm asking b/c there are higher versions such as 2.2 there.

Maybe I am missing something big time there...

Rainbow is one of the moderators here. String from the V2.0 bios:
09/07/1998-i440LX-W83977-2A69JECJC-00

It is for a different I/O chip. Flash this one and you find yourself searching for an ISA I/O card which will allow you to flash back the proper bios. If you're lucky enough to be able to disable the onboard I/O in the bios that is. Else it is hotflash time.

...and, Botchka, a few posts back he identified which BIOS you needed based on the ID string you posted. As you can see, some of the other regulars have taken a look at the ID strings on other BIOSes and so far we agree with Rainbow. The others appear to be for later PCB revisions or different I/O chips. I patched the one Rainbow ID'd.

As you can see, I am really new to flashing BIOS...
Hence my real ignorance here.

The BIOS which Rainbow identified is for the Enlight KL21 V1.x PCB. I do not know what was fixed in this version, but it certainly did not provide support for big disks.

I have patched that BIOS to remove the bugs which limited some Award BIOSes to 32 GiB (~33 GB) using Rainbow's automatic Award BIOS patching utility. If you wish to download and test it, click on the word "here" in my signature and select it from the list.

If you use it:
- you flash at your own risk
- read and follow the flash utility instructions.
- we recommend you clear the CMOS ( take notes of how it is set up first if you want), and that you disable all system BIOS shadowing and/or caching in the CMOS before you flash.
- please let us know how you got on via this forum.
- remember that you may need to run the HDD manufacturer's utility to reduce the transfer rate of a UDMA66 or UDMA100 drive to UDMA33. See the post "links to ATA mode setting utilities" in the "Collected Wisdom" forum
(Please note that to simplify the automatic patching process, the disk capacity reporting has not been patched and the capacity for HDD >64 GB may not be displayed correctly in the configuration report screen or CMOS setup. For example, a 120 GByte disc could show as 2139 Mbytes.)
