Hi!

I'm trying to get my old backup system to work with a new WD 80GB HD.

Board/BIOS-version W6119F1 v 1.3 072998. Award Modular BIOS v 4.51 PG. Award Plug and Play BIOS Extension v 1.0A.

Now I'm going to have to flash the BIOS, and I have to know whether my board is plug & play or standard? The Award BIOS extension says it's plug & play, but I want to be 100 percent positive.

And if it is plug & play, is there any BIOS upgrade that works with 80GB HDs? Version 2.9 doesn't specify that it does.

Thanks for any feedback!

MSI page wants to say that it's CPU Plug&Play - it means that you can change CPU Speed/Frequency/Ratio in Special Features SETUP. If you don'y have the options there (your board has jumpers to do these things) - use the non-CPUPnP BIOS!

There's an untested patched version of the "CPU Plug'n'Play" BIOS here which you are welcome to evaluate.

Ok, thanks for the replies!

Rainbow, I'm a bit uncertain if there is anything like a Special Features Setup. Would it be located under the 'normal' Setup? I've got Standard CMOS Setup, BIOS Features Setup, Chipset Features Setup and Power Management Setup, but no Special Features Setup.

NickS, so if I would go for your patched version, should I refer the Flashprogram to the .bin-file, ie if I use Awfl783m program, should the command be: awdfl783m 6119p29x.bin; or should I use the .bin-file to patch the original 2.9 version in any way? Or should I use some other flashprogram. Oh, and I keep getting cut off when trying to download it from your site, so I would really appreciate if you could email me the zip-file.

Thanks!

The file is already patched, so I would expect the command to be
awdfl783m 6119p29x.bin savebios.bin /sy /py /cc /cd /cp.
This will also back up your existing BIOS to savebios.bin, just to be safe. Emailed for you to try.

MSI Germany lists 6119 Ver 1.1 as DIP/Standard Board and 1.2 as CPU PnP

with Standard/DIP mainboard you have to use s2.a Bios

Can you confirm which his is ?

I have a feeling that it's not standard MSI board but some OEM version instead... The "W6119F1" is weird - MS-6119 should have either W6119MS (non-CPUPnP) or W6119MJ (CPUPnP).

[edit]
Looks like Fujitsu-Siemens OEM board.

Now it returns MSI6119V28.EXE BIOS VER. 2.8 FÜR MB MSI 6119 V 1.1 DIP which has BIOS OEM message W6119MS V2.8 111199. That one looks pretty standard.

That looks like standard non-CPUPnP BIOS.

Thanks! So that seems to be the final verdict then. Just to sum up to avoid any misunderstanding: your view is that it's a Fujitsu-Siemens manufactured board that is equivalent to the standard Microstar w6119ms; and you recommend using the standard s2.a bios?

Do you have Jumpers or DIp switches on your Board and MS6119 Ver 1.1 then use Standard Bios .
If you have 6119 Ver 1.2 and no DIP and you're able to configure your CPU within Bios then use PnP Bios .
Have you verified your board revision number ?
AFAIK Fujitsu-Siemens does not use special modified OEM-Boards like Gateway & Co use .

Patched Bios MS-6119 PnP CPU not working correctly!

Hey,

I Just tested the untested patch bios 2.9 patched for bigger disks, but there are some problems.

- HD Auto detect, i receive a message telling me something like that this option is not working under DOS.

- I can't set the time/date because this screen locks up

- Perhiperal setup acts weard!

Just for notice, maybe the development is still going on!

With regards,
