Hi,

I have a 40GB Seagate harddisk
The problem is I cannot get this drive to work on my Biostar M6Vbe with the latest bios.
Maybe it was the 32GB Bug...
Does anybody have any hints...?

Does there exist a BIOS that supports harddrives of the size?

thanks in advance,
Don Promillo

There's a patched release here: http://http://wims.rainbow-software.org

Warning !!!
The patched Bios is only for M6VBE with VIA 82C693 Northbridge !!!
There's an older one existing with VIA 82C692 Nortbridge .
Please verify first - big VIA chip in center of board .
And please post your Bios-ID including OEM-message in top left corner just below Award Logo on the screen showing the Bios-ID on the last line !

People will now understand why posting the full BIOS string in the Subject line is a good idea, and required by the Forum rules.

I have seen 693 versions with 692 in it's Bios-ID (07061999 Bios) so not always helpful .
With this special board it's better to have a look onto the VIA chipset .
I have seen many cases witht this board and a bad flash due to version confusion .

My Northbridge is a vt82c693. I have installed the Nios Update from http://wims.rainbow-software.org (vbe1118a)
I tried a 80GB HDD, but there werde only 32GB recognized!

Untested Boises are good, too!

Thanks!

Don, have you checked whether you have the 32GB clip on your HDD? Make sure you remove it for full capacity recognition.

Limit your drive to 32GB and then use a utility from your HDD manufacturer and set your drive to UDMA33 or UDMa Mode 2 .
What make/model is your HDD ?

Don't use any software from manufacturer. Run FDISK and create the partition(s) you want, reboot and then format it(them).
