Hey all -
I have the PC Chips M805LR motherboard (Socket A, 950mhz AMD Duron).
Anyways - When i boot the system, the BIOS runs through its self tests then gives me a checksum error.
On top of the checksum error, the hard drive will not even turn on!
I know my PS is good and the HD is good (its only 4gb so no update should be needed to the bios i would imagine). When my computer is ON, my harddrive is off but once i pull the IDE cable out of the HDD the HDD turns on! I dont really understand whats goin on here. One more time, I boot the comp, checksum error, and my HDD wont turn on unless i pull the IDE cable out of it. Is my IDE messed up past the stage of being fixed?? Any input would be appreciated.
thanks

Replace the IDE cable, and make sure it is properly oriented.

Im 100% sure the orientation is right, I will try to switch out the IDE cable and post my results.
How would i solve the checksum error?
I know there have been numerous posts in the past about this issue but i cant seem to find one. Can someone give me a link to a previous post or tell me how to fix the checksum error.
Also - any more ideas on the HDD not powering on with the system?
thanks

Once a customer had this and he got so frustrated he gave away his machine to me. When I switched out the cable the system came back alive and has been purring ever since.

I asked if he wanted it back but no, he already bought another machine and was perfectly happy I had solved his mystery and told me to keep the system :)
