I have tried to get the appropriate patch at http://wims.rainbow-software.org, but all i get is a broken download (tried > 10 times)

At boot I get a message "unknown flash type" Does anyone know if it is still save to flash whit this message at startup?

Your help is appreciated

Use a downloadmanager to get the file - sometimes the server sends the files not correct
Unknown Flash means the Bios tries to save information in a special area on the Bios-chip but can't identify the chip either because some kind of flash protect is active or the chip is damaged

Thanks, for your quick reply, I will give it try. Ages ago I used downloadmanagers, hardly ever get broken downloads time after time nowadays.

Still a little insecure about the "unknown flash type" message, especially since it appears at normal bootup. I would expect this type of message during flashing (or am I completely wrong?) The only thing I can find that may protect flash write is the Trend Chip Away virus utility, I'll disable this and see what I get. If I need more help on this issue I will post in on of the other forums.

I have seen boards with an EPROM in there (because they're cheaper than Flash ROMs) reacting like that. Make sure you know exactly what kind of chip is in there before you flash.
