Hello,

my new Western Digital Harddrive WD800 (80GB) is not recognized by my Toshiba Equium 3200M.
After doing some research I found a new BIOS from Toshiba and updated mine from 1.08.03 to 2.05.07
(here is a link to the BIOS update -> http://support.toshiba-tro.de/tools/bio ... _20507.zip )

BIOS details now:
Award Modular Bios v4.51PG
02/29/2000-i440ZX-w83977-2A69KB3NC-00

This helped for my processor upgrade to PIII 750
But the update didn't help for the Harddrive

I also found out that the Board is a BCM IN440ZX
The latest BIOS on there page is rev.1.02 Date 1/18/1999
(link to BCM BIOS -> http://www.bcmcom.com/tech/IN440ZX/bios/in440zx-102.zip )

I don't know if I can download and install that BIOS and if it would help.

Any further help would be greatly appreciated

Best regards from HMUe / Germany

Michael

in440zx-102.zip contains this BIOS:

02/12/1999-i440BX-W83977-2A69KB3JC-00
PENTIUM II/III AGP/PCI/ISA SYSTEM BIOS VER:1.02(#20861)

INT13h Extensions...Present: new-style
New-style code found at 3060
=> 32GB bug patched successfully

The one from Toshiba says :
BIOS ID string: 02/29/2000-i440ZX-W83977-2A69KB3NC-00
BIOS OEM string: PENTIUM II/III AGP/PCI/ISA SYSTEM BIOS VER:2.05.07(#20863)
INT13h Extensions...Present: new-style
=> BIOS already supports HDDs over 32GB!
Searching for size calculation routine...Found at 2374
Searching for free space...Found at 19485
Patching code at 2373

I would stick with this one; it is the i440ZX version and is later. Pick up a patched version which should support 128GB HDD from the link in my signature if you want to test it; please give us feedback.

Nick,

thank you for your very fast reply.
You suggested to stay with the Toshiba BIOS and stated that you have a patched version for support 128 GB HDD. I followed your link but I'm unsure which BIOS I should download to test. Is it the (BCM IN440ZX).zip ?

Hi again,

I have downloaded the patched BIOS, flashed it and found no errors so far.
It works well with the new WD800 HDD and also with old HDD and operating system.

Thanks a lot Nick !!!!

(I only had some difficulties to download the patched BIOS.
The only way to get it was to use a download manager, and even that
took a long time (had to resume view times).
Just wanted to let you know.)
