Hi Kuriaki,
THANKS for replying so soon !! I indeed managed now to upgrade my bios, and the HD is recognized !
I noticed the bios itself is altered since i cannot do autodetect HD anymore, and if i connect the larger hd in combination with the original (6 GB containing windows 98) it is not seen by windows 98, but who cares if it works
As you requested i ran bios agent and got the following (copying and pasting from a text file, i hope it is ok for you) :
Program: eSupport.com BIOS Agent Version 3.45
BIOS Date: 09/23/98
BIOS Type: Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
BIOS ID: 09/23/98-i440LX-W977TF-ATC-6120C
OEM Sign-On: ATC-6120 VER:2.0 06 WB
Chipset: Intel 440EX/LX rev 3
Superio: Winbond 977TF rev 0 found at port 3F0h
OS: Win98
CPU: Pentium® II With On-Die L2 Cache 334 MHz
BIOS ROM In Socket: Unknown
BIOS ROM Size: Unknown
Memory Installed: 191 MB
Memory Maximum: Unknown
I must admit i did a copy and paste from another entry in the forum so maybe not all the parameters i gave were correct, but the values above are certainly the right ones which i obtained via windows 98 before upgrading the bios !
At this very moment i have booted the PC with the new hd from the CD of XP Pro and it recognizes the disk perfectly ! i will try to attach the old hd to the secondary IDE so that my collegue can recover his old files.
Thanks thanks thanks thanks again and happy newyear !!
Ronny
