40GB: P2L-B ACPI BIOS REV 1005 08/06/98-i440LX-<P2L-B7

I would like to install a 40gb on my PII 266mhz and the BIOS doesn't allow it.
Here's the flash I got lately (same as the one I already get on the puter)
Can't find anything new besides this one.

Should be able to get the latest Beta BIOS at:
http://www.asus.com/support/download/it ... Name=P2L-B
and click on the Beta button on the top. Looks like a BIOS from August 2000.

Tried the first beta BIOS, now the system doesn't boot at all.
Get stuck right after the memory test.
I guess this MB is dead now.

Did you try to clear CMOS? Page 15 of the P2L-B motherboard manual.

I thought about it but there is no jumper and on page 15, they tell to short the solder points, I will try with a screwdriver.
I tried this trick @

by removing the non-working bios chip and trying to flash it with another working puter but it didn't work cuz my other working (with non soldered chip) is a Pentium MMX , not a PII and aflash.exe told me that it wasn't able to reach the BIOS.
Anyways, I will try to short the soldered points and see what happen.

It'S no good, I'll prolly have to make the BIOS chip re-programmed by a technician.
Same thing, it boots , does the memory test and hang up at :
Award plug and Play BIOS Extension V.10A
CDROM drive spins and stop after, like 10 sec.
Same thing with IDE LED but much longer (around 20sec)
Tried disconnecting all the drives except floppy.
BIOS doesn't let me in the setup. DEL doesn't work.

Here's what I see when I power on:
(note that I see a new ver now, obviously cuz of the flashing)

at the bottom 08/02/01-i440LX-<P2L-B>
Maybe the flash wasn't intend for this MB.

Yes, printed in white -
ASUS P2L-B Rev 1.02
Near floppy ribbon cable connector.

Clear CMOS again :
Remove Power from your PSU but then press power button to unload capacitors in PSU and onto the mainboard
Then remove battery from mainboard and short-circuit the + and - contacts in the battery socket with a flat screwdriver
Test with only one stick of memory in all possible RAM-slots

Same thing, but this time it recognize only 64 mb RAM instead of the usual 128mb. Tried with only one stick of SDRAM in all 3 slots available.
Even tried to boot without no RAM at all (even CPU) just to see if it could affect it. Obviously, it didn't affect it at all.
Do I have to put back the battery after all of your suggestions ?
Also, is it better to try without ANYTHING and only the video card ?
Since the BIOS boot failure, I tried without HDs/floppy/switching RAM slots/no battery.
I will leave the puter with no power/no battery/switch on for the night.
We'll see if that darn CMOS can be erased or not.
