I'm trying to install a new 60gb 7200 western digital hd on an older amd k6-2/350 processor. I've spent days reading and researching this site but am not able to determine the identity nor make of my bios nor whether any upgrades are availible. I'm having a world of troubles installing the above as a primary drive and would like to upgrade the bios to see if that would help installation.

Bios Agent reported the following:

bios id: B
bios date: 04/16/99
bios sign on: 04/16/99-ALADDIN5-P5A-B-00
bios type: Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
chipset: ALi M1541 rev 4
oem signon: ASUS P5A-B ACPI BIOS Revision 1007

why is my "bios id" being returned as simply "B". is something wrong?

could someone tell me what information to use for searching this site or better yet, tell me outright if there's an upgrade availible for this bios.

thanks any info would be appreciated.
I can also be reached directly at vmanfx@shaw.ca

That's the give-away - it is an Asus P5A-B.

Different utilities use different names for the various strings which identify the BIOS. We normally use "Bios ID" for what this utility calls "BIOS sign-on"

http://www.asus.com.tw/support/download ... Name=P5A-B Select BIOS, then select Beta. Choose the BIOS you need (with/without sound).
