Hi Everybody,

I have a Seagate Barracuda 80 GB HDD model no. ST380011A but my BIOS is not recognizing it (CMOS Setup hangs on auto-detection).

The BIOS details are as follows:
BOIS type: Award BIOS
BIOS String: B681 ver 1.2 18/7/1998

The motherboard string shown at the bottom is:
08/07/1998-i440LX-ALi513-2A69JPNBC-00

I have researched on this wonderful site and dug out the details:
Chipset: Intel AGPSet 440 LX
Manufacturer: Procomp
Reseller: Mercury (Kobian)

The manufacturer/reseller is no longer supporting the board.

I did attempt with a few of the BIOS updates available for the same chipset but different manufacturer but it did not work.
I hope somebody can patch my BIOS for me so that the HDD is recognised.

Thanks in advance!

Manish.

This is the latest BIOS for Procomp B681:
03/03/1999-i440EX-ALi513-2A69JPNBC-00
B681 BIOS Ver:1.3

B681 should be based on i440EX chipset.

Thanks for the detailed info & instructions. I have downloaded the patched BIOS and will be putting it to test. Keeping my fingers crossed - being my first time! I wil definitely give out the results.

Regrading the partitioning ... I have no problems as Linux is already recognising the disk and I have partitioned the disk with Linux cfdisk utility.

Thanks again!
