Help required!

Hello,
I need to flash my BIOS to use a 120 GB disk.
I have a BIOSTAR board with the following data:
System mainboard:
Model: M6VBE
Version: 1.x
Extended Mainboard data:
Model: VBE0706A
Serial Number: 07/06/1999-692-596-8671-2A6LGB09C-00
Chipset: VIA VT82C693 Apollo Pro Plus

What BIOS update and flash utility do I have to use?

Thank you in advance, best regards
steve

That BIOS should already support your drive. Check for a 32GB jumper on the HDD.

FULL STOP HERE !!!!!!

You might have the "special" M6VBE here with VIA 82C693 chipset - both Biosfiles from Biostar usually do not work with this board and render it useless unless you have your Flasrom reprogrammed
M6VBE has VIA82C692 chipet and M6VBE-A has VIA82C693A FSB133 chipset

Make sure you have the 82C693 chipset version ( look onto your mainboard - the big VIA chip in center position) and use the already patched Bios from our site :

Yep - Fujitsu-Siemens only

As a hint : Latest 692-Bios is the official one from Biostar-the 693 versions have a newer date but some still have 692 in the ID part - only with the latest 11/99 the 32GB Bug might be removed and 693 is in Bios-ID

I'm active in some other Forums and many people have kiled the M6VBE Bios using the wrong update - 692 Bios on 693 board and vice versa (somebody even tried the M6VBE-A Bios on a 692)

Yes, that's the way it is !

My BIOSTAR board is in a Fujitsu-Siemens.
I have re-checked the relevant data. The boards is the M6VBE with the VT82C693chip set.

So, what BIOS update is now the correct one to use (and with what flash utility used best) ??

Thank you all for your replies, best regards,
Steve

The M6VBE 693 Bios is already patched for HDD up to 128GB

I prefer using Uniflash especially for older Board but every newer Awardflash 6.x or 7.x should be OK

:D Problem solved !!

I now flashed the BIOS with UNIFLASH using the patched BIOS VBE1118a.bin.
After reboot the 120 GB was recognised. YESSS!!

So, thanks you very much for your help,

Best regards,
Steve

I also need a new BIOS to use a larger Hard-Disk. My motherboard is the Biostar M6VBE and the northbridge is the VIA VT82C693, but the southbridge is the 596 with annex "A" (VT82C596A). Can I use the BIOS-Update "Biostar M6VBE with VIA 693 North Bridge" / 11/18/1999-693-596-8671-2A6LGB09C-00 although the name of the second chip is a little different?

There is only one M6VBE with 82C693 Northbridge and the Southbridge should always be the 82C596A on the 693 model.

Short : Yes the 693-Bios is suitable for your board
