The 3.6 and 3.7 Bios should not have any problem with a 40GB HDD but may have soem problems with 80GB or bigger - I have a 3.83 Beta which is known to be working up to 120GB HDD
What's exactly your problem with your HDD ?
32GB limitation clip removed ?

When I plugged in my Maxtor, the bios scan will hang.
