Have been trying to have my BIOS recognize a WD 60 GB drive and have learned alot about BIOSes in the last couple of days, however not enough to mod it myself. Can anyone help?

Information:

BIOS ID: 01/27/1999-i440BX-W977TF-P6BX-AP
BIOAS OEM Signon: P6BX-A+ Ver 1.5b 01/27/1999

The motherboard is an ECS P6BX-A+ with the 128K byte (1M bit) flash.

ECS does offer an upgraded BIOS (5.6) for the 256K byte (2M bit) flash but not for the 128K.

Thanks,

Denniss,

My understanding is that it is not for a P6BX-A+ Ver 1.X. According to ECS USA support my only solution is to purchase a 256K byte (2M bit) flash with BIOS Ver 5.6 (p6batap56). As the motherboard is old, if I had to go this route I would purchase a new motherboard. Thanks for the reply - if you have had any success with the BIOS you suggest on a P6BX-A+ motherboard - please let me know.

http://www.ecs.com.tw/download/p6bxap1x.htm

The 2.4em is for all P6BX-A+ using 1MBit Bios

Please install this Bios and test your HDD - if it does not work one of us will patch the Bios for you

Denniss,

Thanks once again for your reply.

I downloaded 2.4em as you suggested. Upon executing the AWD66 to flash the BIOS it returned an error "The program file's part number does not match with your system." My version of the motherboard is a P6BX-A+ Ver 1.1a with a 29EE011 / 5V flash. After this, I executed AWD66 with the 1.5b (existing BIOS) - the error message did not come up.

Would appreciate your guidance.

Different I/O chip?

1.5b
01/27/1999-i440BX-W977TF-P6BX-AP
P6BX-A+ Ver 1.5b 01/27/1999

2.4
05/07/1998-i440BX-W83977-P6BX-A+
P6BX-A+ Ver 2.4 05/07/1998

2.4eM
08/12/1998-i440BX-W83977-P6BX-AP
P6BX-Ap Ver 2.4eM 08/12/1998

would eM be eMachines perhaps?

Thanks for all the help - I purchased an external controller card fro $35 CDN. I recognizes the new drive. Far easier than learning BIOS modding.
