Got an old computer i was going to use as a linux server, but it hangs while detecting the hdd. Found out by googling it was probably the 32 GB / 64 GB thingy, but hasn't been able to find a patched bios anywhere.

BIOS Agent output:

BIOS Date: 08/12/98
BIOS Type: Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
BIOS ID: 08/12/1998-i440LX-W83977-2A69JPAAC-00
OEM Sign-On: 08/12/1998 For i440LX AGPset
Chipset: Intel 440EX/LX rev 3
Superio: Winbond 977TF rev 0 found at port 3F0h
CPU Type: Pentium II
CPU Speed: 300 Mhz
CPU Max: 333 Mhz
BIOS ROM In Socket: Yes
BIOS ROM Size: 128K
Memory Installed: 192 MB

Any help would be greatly apriciated.

Thanks in advance,
Vegard

Epox

2A69JPAAC EP-61EXA-A
2A69JPAAC EP-61LXA
2A69JPAAC EP-61LXA-M
2A69JPAAC EP-LXR
2A69JPAAC KP6-LA

Check top surface for one of these numbers and search using the number you found on the epox site for a newer bios first.

Found a newer one on the epox site, must have missed it before, that one is 12/22/1999-i440LX-W83977-2A69JPAAC-00 (http://eng.epox.com.tw/file/LX009C22.ZIP), after flashing with that one, the boot sequence comes a little longer before it hangs.

It now detects the drive correctly as WDC WDC1200JB-32EVA0, then hangs while printing the "Systems Configuration" screen. It prints "Pri. Master Disk: LBA,UDMA,5," and hangs with the cursor under the last ",". It also seems to hang when i try change from auto detection in the bios setup-

Looks they removed the 32GB Bug and forgot to remove the 64GB Bug .
And the Bios has the additional UDMA Bug (activating UDMA100 Mode of the HDD but the chipset is only capable uf UDMA33)

Ok.
Is that patchable, or do I have to use a smaller/non-udma100 hdd? Would really like to have the 120GB one in that computer

Patched it using apple_rom's patcher, havent gotten around to install any operating systems yet, but it seems to work like a charm now.

Hi

I've got the same problem (with EP-61LXA-M mobo) but have been unable to locate the patched version of the bios. Any pointers much appreciated.

Followed Vegard's instructions - downloaded BIOS Patcher from http://www.rom.by/english.html and ran it on the latest BIOS downloaded from EPoX site. Problem sorted.
I would have attached the patched BIOS image to this post but don't seem able to.
