I am trying to update a PIII 500MHz machine for 80GB drives, can't find any updates.

The BIOS-ID reads as:
10/13/1999-693A-596-8671-2A6LGB09C-00
Which should be Via Apollo Pro Plus (692/596) Chipset, Manufacturer Biostar.

I've trawled VIA and Biostar sites but can find nothing suitable to update with.

The machine has Award Modular BIOS V. 4.51PG.

Does anyone have any tips?

Thanks
Fergus

If you look at the "Tested BIOSes" link you will find one we prepared earlier.
Biostar M6VBE-A
As always, you flash at your own risk, but this patched BIOS has been found to work by at least one person.
Please remember to flash using /cc/cd/cp

Thanks for the prompt reply. I tried the file, using awdflash from the biostar site but just get the message "the program file's part number does not match with your system" and the flash utility stops.

I tried using /py as recommended but the same message appears.

Any further hints?

The OEM ID I have is VBE-A1013A

Thanks
Fergus

Are you sure you picked the right Bios and not mistakenly for the M6VBE-693 ?
VBE-A1013A
-> Means M6VBE-A with OEM-Bios

Sind Sie sicher das Sie das richtige Bios erwischt haben und nicht versehentlich das M6VBE-693 Bios ?

I "definitely" have the right file. Perhaps the wrong awdflash.exe file? Are there other sources?

Thanks

Try a different awdflash.exe version - usually 6.x and 7.x are fine for older board or use Uniflash

To be on the safe side make sure you really have the M6VBE-A via looking at the board - should be somewhere near the CPU/chipset/memory slots printed onto it

I do have that board, I checked the markings.
I will try unifalsh or other flash applications when I have the opportunity. I need the machine at the moment to cover for another one but I'll post the results as soon as I can.

Thanks for the help
