Background: trying to install 40GB IDE drive in BigIP system with Macrotek MSPC-6880/6700 motherboard.

Attempted fix: tried to upgrade BIOS using the Award flash utility AWD812.exe and Macrotek BIOS update file 688x-122.bin, obtained from their website.

Result: I receive the following error message:

"The program file's part number does not match with your system."

Also tried the 6x00-22.bin BIOS update file, same error message received.

Result of BIOS info utility CTBIOS.exe:

BIOS-Info, c't/Andreas Stiller, V. 1.5 10/00

Rechnertyp : AT-3, Konfigurationsbyte $74

V1.22
08/03/2000-i440BX-W83977-2A69KMHEC-00
MSPC-6880/6886 V.1.22 2000/08/03

V1.21

MSPC-6880/6886 V.1.21 2000/07/14

Seems like they changed one letter of the BIOS ID string in the last two releases. I'd go ahead and flash and disregard the warning message.

First off, thanks for the quick reply.

I looked at the switches included with the awd812.exe utility but didn't see one that would enable the flash programming to proceed in the event of an error. Right now, the utility closes and plops me back to a command prompt without giving me the option of proceeding.

Any additional help is greatly appreciated.

An alternative (free) flasher is Uniflash (www.uniflash.org)

Bingo! Used uniflash with the "-E" switch and it worked flawlessly. My m-board now recognizes the larger HDD. Very cool.

Thanks to both of you guys for your help.
