Sorry for my English.

I've got a big Problem

I bought a Western Digital 80 GB HDD.
I have updatet my Bios with a Bios from this Page

First i flash my Bios with the Version from my Mainboardmanufacturer but it doesn't recognized the HDD. Then I Flash it with your Bios version iand he recognized it.

Here my HDD: WDC WD800BB-00FRA0 <-- what means 00FRA0 ?

I've Flash my Bios with yours and now the HDD will be found.
Befor he doesn't.

Now I have a Problem installing Win XP (incl. SP1).

I Boot from the CD and make a partition for my System and one for my Data.

The Installation Copy the data from the CD to the first Partition i've made for the System. If it's finished the PC restart, up to now is all ok.

Then there is a problem booting from the HDD 1. Partition.
Error msg: Errors loading the operating system
Sometimes nothing comes.

The HDD is 1 day old.

What can I do?

If I flashed my Bios there was a part who wasn't Updated (No Update) befor the update was Complete

Is it possible that i make something wrong?
The System doesn't boot from my 80 GB WDC HDD.

I don't think this will help in your particular case, but if you have a switch on the power supply (not the front of the case, but on the actual power supply unit at the back), switch it off. If not, switch off at wall or unplug power cord. Wait a minute or so, then plug back in or switch back on, and then power up using the case front power button.

This probably sounds like it will do nothing, but it seems to be necessary for me occassionally. I think the RAM must get garbage in it or something and it needs proper clearing. On ATX, a Windows Shutdown power off leaves a small amount of power still applied to the computer.

That doesn't help

Anyone an idea?

1) The non-updated portion of the flashing procedure is the bootblock. It does not require updating unless forced to. Don't worry.

2) Regarding your HDD, try using an alternative set of parameters (i.e. those printed on the HDD itself, or those suggested in the WD website). Try not to use the BIOS Autodetect feature.

-00FRA0- could simply mean a firmware revision of the HDD.

Try using the WD Data LifeGuard utility to set the maximum UDMA mode to Mode 2 (UDMA 33).
