I have a Lucky Star Mobo that hang after installing a 120 GB Western Digital HD.

The bios is:
11/11/1999-692-596-W977-2A6LGL1A-00
LGA3-08

I have found a bios that is LGA3-03 that fixes the Award bug.

Does this bios has the bug? Cause it seems that this is a newer bios.

It most likely does have the bug. We patch the latest versions we manage to find in the www. Luckily, some people pop up with more recent versions, as is this case. So... why don't you save a copy of your BIOS, send it to any of the moderators for patching, and we'll send you a patched release.

We can then update our patched BIOS' site.

I did plug in a 160 Western Digital hard drive and the drive was recognized. I also plug the WD 120GB HD into a newer system, and it was recoginized by the MOBO (Dell 4600). I changed the ribbon cable.

I am lost for what could be causing the problem.

How would I go about making a backup. I tried to use a bios file LGA3-3X.bin with Awards bios flash 8.15C ( I think). When it came time to do the backup the current bios, it freeze creating a 0 byte file.

Any Sugguestions?

use awdflash 7.x or 6.x

some older bioses cannot be flashed or backed up by the newer flash utilities.

If the 160GB drive is recognised and the 120GB drive is not, could jumpers be causing the problem?

Odd. A BIOS that old should not recognize the full capacity of a 160GB drive under any circumstances.
