40GB: 4S4EB2X0.86A.0022.P15.9909271236

Hello Group!
I recently bought a 40 GB Samgsung HDD, model no. SP0411N. The main problem is that the hard disk is not being supported on my mainboard. I fixed the jumper setting to 32 GB limitation. This can be overcome if I update my bios, I believe.
I'm noting down my mainboard information fetched from BIOS Wizard:
BIOS Manufacturer: PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0 licensed to Intel

BIOS Date: 09/27/99
BIOS RAM Size: 512K
Chipset: Intel 440BX/ZX rev 3

I will be glad if someone can please get me an update for my BIOS.

Looks like a Intel SE440BX-2 motherboard.

Are you sure that is the mainboard I'm using. I lost the model number of my mainboard.
I used Intel Chipset Identification Utility and got the following information.
Detected Chipset: Intel(R) 440 chipset family
Memory Controller: 82443BX/DX/ZX
I/O Controller: 82371EB (PIIX4E)
Integrated Graphics: Not Detected

Your board should support disks up to 128GB with any version of the bios. I think there's something wrong with the harddisk, either not set properly for master/slave or connected wrongly.
UDMA cable coding:
blue=controller
black=master
gray=slave
yes it does matter how you connect things these days.

If an Intel SE440BX2, then, being an Intel board, there may be the information printed on the physical board to help you verify.
I cannot say about the SE440BX, but I tried an 80GB and 40GB on the AL440LX, a slightly older Intel board, and this did not report these disk sizes correctly until the latest BIOS patch was applied. But anyway, enough of that - that is going off-topic.
Afterthought: Edit: BTW: I just had a look at the release notes for the Intel SE440BX-2 and could not find anything to suggest improved HDD support, unless it is ommitted. Therefore, assuming your BIOS as is will support your drive currently, it sounds as though there may be a jumpering or cabling issue. Does the drive detect at all currently on the Intel SE44BX-2 board? If not, try it on a cable by itself. Try removing or changing the jumper for Master, Slave, CS. Also check the cable is in properly at both the mobo and drive connectors, and check the drive has power as well as data and that it appears to be powering up. I will be interested to hear how you go. Could also be as simpel as the data cable being reversed (not to pin 1) at one end.

SE440BX2 detect 80GB fine. Mine did at least.
