I recently got my hands on a western digital 80gig enhanced IDE hard drive

model # wd800bb-00jka0
sn - wmamd1804056

The problem I have is my pc doesn't recognize the whole 80 gig. I can, with the jumper setting on the drive, get my pc to recognize 32 of the 80 gig. Can I get my pc to recognice the 80 gig with my current motherboard and bios (info below)?

Program: eSupport.com BIOS Agent Version 3.42
BIOS Date: 07/06/99
BIOS Type: Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
BIOS ID: 07/06/1999-MVP3-596-W877-2A5LEPADC
OEM Sign-On: 07/16/1999 For Apollo MVP3 AGP/PCIset
Chipset: VIA 82C597 rev 4
Superio: Winbond 877TF (use 87h) rev 0 found at port 3F0h
OS: WinXP SP1
CPU: AMD-K6(tm) 3D processor 450 MHz
BIOS ROM In Socket: Unknown
BIOS ROM Size: Unknown

Thanks for any response,

Shadow750

Epox mainboard - model number should be clearly visible (printed onto the Board).
There should be a newer Biosupdate available at www.epox.com

updated bios to:
Program: eSupport.com BIOS Agent Version 3.42
BIOS Date: 08/11/00
BIOS Type: Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
BIOS ID: 08/11/2000-MVP3-596-W877-2A5LEPADC
OEM Sign-On: 08/11/2000 For Apollo MVP3 AGP/PCIset
Chipset: VIA 82C597 rev 4
Superio: Winbond 877TF (use 87h) rev 0 found at port 3F0h
OS: WinXP SP1
CPU: AMD-K6(tm) 3D processor 450 MHz
BIOS ROM In Socket: Unknown
BIOS ROM Size: Unknown

pc now recognizes the drive on startup device page however it will not recognize the whole 80gig. The drive I am referring to has already been fdisked and formatted. Then xp installed on it using a newer pc that recognized the drive just fine. Is there anything else I can do to get this to recognize the whole 80 gig? Thanks again for your response!

The Bios recognizes it as what sized HDD ?
What does XP detect this HDD as ?

Please do remember HDD manufacturers use a different way of calculating a HDD size - OS counts different making it smaller than officiall and the OS needs some space, too.
Most HDD offered as 80Gigs usually have between 74 and 74GB formatted.

Nope, i tried it both with and without the jumper with the same results each time. I may end up buying a new motheboard. currently @ amd 450, with xp installed

NickS, I just wanted to let you know that the untested patch you suggested worked great. It is now recognized and fully operational using the drives whole 80 gig. The file I patched it with is ((Epox MVP3-G 1M)).
Thanks again for everyones help and patience!
