Hi,

I bought a 80GB harddisk 2 years ago (now it died) and I'm looking for buying a new one, my problem was that my motherboard didn't recognized it and I wan't a 200GB HD now...

With the 80GB hd I had to put the jumper to limit his capacity to 32GB.

Anyone knows how I can do to use the 200GB? or what's the limit?

I use always linux.

Thank you!!!

120GB is the limit for a BX chipset. Buy an add-on IDE controller card.

but, how about my old 80GB HD?? why didn't work?

And about a new IDE controller, I supose you are refering to a PCI card, with this card I can attach a 200 GB HD? and in total, how many IDE devices can I attach? 4 in the mainboard and 2? 4? in the PCI-IDE controller?

Very much thanks!!!

IIRC, the latest Asus P2B BIOS was released in 2003. I have this board and it works fine with Samsung 120GB drive.

IDE controllers usually come with 2 IDE ports, so 4 devices.

it means I could have 8 devices in total, isn't it?

and I can attach without problems a 200 GB HD to the pci card IDE-controller, can't I?

Finally, the lastest BIOS I found is here:
http://www.asus.com.tw/support/download ... B&Type=All

Where did you download that BIOS, Rainbow?

Thanks again

ok, I answer myself. i440BX it's the same that intel 440BX.

and I look files in the ftp and are the same that are in web:
------
1012NH.ZIP P2B (without Hardwaremonitor) ACPI BIOS 1012 final (=1012 beta 03)

1014NH03.ZIP P2B (without Hardwaremonitor) ACPI BIOS 1014 beta 03

INDEX.TXT INDEX

FINAL = beta Status
- = 1014.003
1012 = 1012.003
------

I have the 1012 version because I didn't want put a beta, but the two versions are from 2002, the beta from august and the another from april. Maybe I have to put the beta version?

You have to use the Beta - this Beta is working fine. I've not heard any complains about this Bios.
