I have a PC from Packard Bell with dead/discarded hard drive. I purchased a new Western digital 80gb hard drive and I am having hard time installing it, it is not recognized...I suspect my bios need update.

When I open computer case, on board I can read "M5SIB ver. 2.0". I am not sure how to find other relevant bios info such as bios ID. After I boot computer I can enter bios setup utility where it reads:

ROM PCI/ISA BIOS (2A5IIB0B)
CMOS SEUP UTILITY
AWARD

On this web site (http://wims.rainbow-software.org/) there is BIOS Ver. 1.05 128GB patch by wimsbios team, designed for Biostar M5SIB.

I am confused by the fact that this is ver. 1.05 and my board says ver. 2.0. In any case, does anyone have any idea if there is bios update that I can use...I understand you may need more info about my system - if so, please provide instructions for me how to go around to get it. Thaks a lot in advance!!!

You have a Pegase motherboard for Packard Bell, same as Biostar M5SIB.
You can use the patched BIOS without problems.

I did it and it worked great. Thanks a lot for your help! The only problem now, with new hard drive in my system, I cannot use Packard Bell restore CD (with operating system on it)...when I insert restore CD, I get this message how it can only be used with Packard Bell systems, so I guess I will get OS elsewhere.

The Restore-Cd is looking for a specific HP Bios-ID-key and this is not available using a Biostar Bios. It may be possible to create a standard OS install CD out of a recovery version. If you have a windows license it's possible to use a copied CD from a friend because only the license is important.

well I installed windows 98 and hooked up new hard drive. However, there appear to be some kind of problem with bios - when I press F2 at startup and try to enter cmos setup, it freezes. It only shows primary master, no slave or secondaries...or boot sequence, or any of that stuff that would normaly show there. Esc button no longer works either and the only way to get out is to press power button. Any ideas what's wrong? I flashed bios again and it went fine, again, but this problem is still there.

I don't know what is causing this BIOS Setup hang, but I have a patched Ver. 1.06 BIOS for the M5SIB v2.0 which may sove this problem.
