BIOS Auto Detect does not detect a new Seagate Barracuda 80G IDE drive

Steps taken sofar: this post is it (I want to get it right first time)

Details of my system are:

Board: MS-5169 V2.1 Microstar International
CPU: AMD-K6 33 MHz
Chipset: ALi M1531/M1543

OS: Win 98

BIOS Type: American Megatrends

Can someone please recommend a BIOS update and compatible loader.
The latest version for my version of the 5169 on the Microstar website is v3.6 but makes no mention of a fix for HD capacity:

Responses to a previous post by Eric on 5 Jan 2005 suggested the v3.83 beta BIOS but for a different version (4) of the motherboard.

Also, does anyone know if there is BIOS protection on this motherboard. I cannot find a BIOS setting and if it is in hardware I do not know what to look for.

The German MSI site points to the V3.7 BIOS for all MS-5169 revisions. This could simply mean that the particular "fix" they mention only applies to some of the motherboard revsions, not excluding the BIOS compatibility with others.

This Bios should work on all MS-5169 but I'm not sure of Rev 1.x boards.
