This is a IBM netvista X 40 with Mitac LP6641 board with AMI bios.

It is identified as NCI LUXOR PTJ59A in the bios string.

Can someone help patch this AMI bios for > 32GB , the bios on the IBM site says it supports > 32GB from version 53a even though mine is 59a it still does not recognize a 80GB hard drive.

Is there anyone who has successfully patched a AMI bios for the 137GB limit

thanks

We can't patch Amibios, there may be some sort of Beta-patch available but this is only able to fix the 32GB problem and not the 64GB problem.

Is your HDD not recognized at all or does your Bios hang during detection ?
Tried to enter HDD parameters manually and activating LBA for this drive ?

The AMI BIOS id string is

62-0213-001743-00101111-071595-SIS630-1AAFV113-H

The drive is not recognized at all, it just hangs, and in the bios, I cannot set it to user 47 type, after 46 it goes to AUTO.

Is there no chance of patching the bios with a good Int-13 module ?

thanks

Will clipping the hard disk at 32GB reduce the size even inside the OS ?

I tried clipping it at 32GB and booting it with a knopixx cd, inside linux fdisk shows full 203.9 GB, since it contains some data already I didnot want to change or write any new partitions to the hard disk.

If it worked for someone this way, then I can go ahead, transfer the data and then repartition & reformat it.

Anyone who had success with the OS recognizing even when the hard disk is clipped, please share thanks

Yes, clipping it to 32Gb should work. Modern Os like W2K/XP (with latest patches) and Linux access the HD directly without relying on the Bios. Only the boot partition has to be within the Bios limits.
