My problem is almost the the same as rouch's in the other similar topic. Bios info:

Program: eSupport.com BIOS Detect v1.2 July 21, 2003
BIOS Date: 03/16/98
BIOS Type: Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
BIOS ID: 03/16/98-i440LX-W977-2A69JW0BC-04
OEM Sign-On: W6LXB 440LX
Chipset: Intel 440EX/LX rev 3
Superio: Winbond 977TF rev 0 found at port 3F0h
CPU Type: Pentium II
CPU Speed: 266 Mhz
CPU Max: 333 Mhz
BIOS ROM In Socket: Yes
BIOS ROM Size: 128K
Memory Installed: 96 MB
Memory Maximum: 128 MB

eSupport.com, Inc.
1-800-800-BIOS (2467)
www.esupport.com

I have tried the

Wintac/Edom W6LXB 09/01/1998-i440LX-W977-2A69JW0BC-07
W6LXB 440LX 64GB+ BETA 128 GB

bios but uniflash reported some verification problem at the end of flushing so the original saved bios was written back.
The too big (40GB) hds are in fat32 and do not want to change this to ntfs or to use some disc manager (Ontrack) because of compatibility issues, so the bios upgrade would be ideal. Any help would be very appreciated.

can you make a backup with uniflash of your current bios and email that to me? Maybe we can patch that one. If that also gives a verification error it's time for a new flash chip.

Bios was sent, thanks.

I risked trying out the wlxb64g and w6lxb-10 (not verified by uniflash) bioses from the rainbow site. Fortunately i could always write back my original saved bios with no problem. The uppermentioned bioses can detect the big (40GB Maxtor) hd but the win9SE "double fifo ide driver" does not like them. I installed a Windows 2000 Pro to the Maxtor in a dual boot configuration with the original bios, the system disc C: was the W98' disk but with the new bioses the 2000 boot process could not find the Maxtor, not as a primery slave or a secondary master. I have tried out all the four disk, rdisk variations in the boot.ini unsuccessfully. so the bioses are not good for me I do not know the cause is their unverified condition or other. All the two bioses behaved similarly

yeah, revision 10 of it. That might work. If not, there's something wrong with the bios/chipset detection mechanism. The bios is telling the chipset it can run UDMA100 harddisks which it cannot. In that case we'll have to add another patch for it as well.
