Question relating to updating BIOS when upgrading CPU/GPU

Hello,

I'm new to this forum so I'm not too sure about whether this is the correct section or not but it seems to be the only one really relating to my main question.

My question is for the experienced people of this forum with regards to the BIOS. I am planning to upgrade the CPU on a MSI MS-6524 motherboard with the SIS 650 chipset from an Intel Pentium 4 Willamette 1.7GHz 400Mhz FSB to an Intel Pentium 4 Northwood 2.6GHz 400Mhz FSB and then add a nVidia 7600 GT 512mb AGP 4x/8x graphics card in. Note the current system has 512mb of system RAM and is NOT a custom build although it has had it's 400w PSU replaced with a 600w one. It is also a very old computer but I don't want to spend alot on a totally new desktop as I am already planning to buy a Macbook Pro 17'' Unibody.

The question is whether I will need to upgrade my BIOS or not. My current BIOS version is Award Modular Bios v6.00 PG (used dxdiag to find). I have searched on the MSI site, found my motherboard and then found some BIOS updates. Now the problem is that the version numbering system doesn't quite match up with my current version. The latest being version 1.7 and the earliest being 1.0. I was wondering whether 1.7 is the latest for my motherboard even though the current version is v6.00 PG which as you can see does not fit in with the numbering system. Again, this is a factory built computer, NOT a custom if that makes any difference.

Also I just want to mention that I have check compatibility of the upgrades that I am doing and if you have any objections, don't hesitate to let me know. Like I have mentioned earlier, this is an old computer so if these parts don't go well with this old motherboard, I would like to know.

If someone could answer my main question, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you very much.

6.00 is the version of the Core used inside your bios. 1.7 is the release version from the entire bios built around that core for this specific board so they are not related. As for upgrading your bios, if there is no mention of specific issues solved with graphics cards, there is NO need to upgrade your bios.
