Tualatin processor not recoginized by HP Pavillion 9680C

My wife's HP Pavillion 9680C which has an ASUS Kestral mainboard is running with a PIII 650 (100 MHz FSB). I tried Powerleap's 1.4 GHz Celeron CPU upgrade but the computer hung immediately without displaying any messages.

Here's the output from BIOS_patcher with /e option:

BIOS_Patcher ver. 4.0_RC.C from "Second_Hope utils".

But when I try to run without /e option I get the following:
BIOS.ROM have not enough space for adding ROM. (Over 7C8Fh bytes)
BIOS.ROM have no enough space for adding ROM. (Over 040Eh bytes)

Any ideas?? Thanks.

The error out-of-space messages were in addition to the report.txt file.
Here's the report.txt file when runnng the BIOS_Patcher. The program doesn't run to completion forcing me to kill it.

To make a little extra room, can you "release" the AntiVirus module ?

Why not the EPA and HP logos as well?

The other question I have is it doesn't appear that BIOS_Patcher is able to add any additional CPU support (see items 1 and 11). Is this due to the out-of-space condition? Thanks for all the input.

It looks as though one of the features of the Asus format is that the standard CBROM (and possibly BP) cannot interpret the microcode file. The other curious thing is that although I don't see anything specified as changed, it has loaded the original.tmp and changed the bootblock code.

The version of BIOS_Patcher that I ran was BP-4rc_C since that's was Rainbow listed in earlier post regarding my P2B BIOS and making it compatible with my Tualatin 1.4 GHz processor. It's not clear to me what are the differences between BP-4rc_C and BP-4rc71. (Is one's a beta?)

Last version is "F" - http://k6-2.narod.ru/award/patcher/bp-4rc_F.rar
Try with it.
>Interesting. BP-4rc71.exe ran for me without any errors.
It`s becose "Asus"-type cpucodes_adding appear in version "C". (i.e. "cpucodes" not changing for asus-bioses in previos versions)

Nick,
I cannot duplicate your actions; I'm still getting the same out-of-space error messages when I run bios_patcher. Where did you obtain your bios file? I got mine from www.hp.com after submitting "Pavillion 9680C" as input. The downloaded file, kest_116.exe, is a self-extracting program which creates five files for a bootable floppy in order to flash the bios. The bios file created is named bios.rom. Since your bios file is named kest116.rom I'm thinking they are not the same.

What does CBROM BIOS.ROM /D show ?
(BTW, please use the "code" attribute to force a fixed-pitch font - makes it easier to read)
