Another AMI BIOS update needed for MS-6156BX.

My problem is similar to the problem in this post

I have a Celeron 600mhz and I bought a Celeron 1.4 ghz to upgrade with on my MS-6156BX. I know the 100fsb is supported and the voltage is correct but when I boot up with the 1.4, the screen stays blank and only the devices powerup.
I tried updating my BIOS with all of the versions on the MSI site
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/b ... =MS-6156BX. But it always comes up with a wrong previous BIOS.
I am almost positive the Celeron 1.4 should work, as the last post on the previous string of this problem showed he had upgraded his system to a 1.4 and works perfectly. Help would be very much appreciated, cause I just don't know what else to do after hours of frustrated attempts.

The Celeron 1.4GHz is a Tualatin type - will only work with special adapter
Pleasepost your full Bios-ID including Bios OEM message shoen at the top left just below the AMI logo
A6156BXO1 1.3 (or similar)

A special adapter? My motherboard has a slot 1, with a 370 socket card that plugs into it if thats what I need, or do you mean a special card aside from that? And if so where can I get it?
The BIOS listed under the AMI logo says
"A6156P5 V 3.3 110899"
My BIOS string at the bottom of startup is
"(c) American Megatrends Inc.,
61-1108-001169-00101111-071595-440BX/ZX-1440B000-H"

You need to replace your slotket with a special one for Tualatins.

Yea it was a NEC Powermate VT300i. I really don't remember where or how I got that BIOS upgraded to what it is now though. Would my current BIOS eventually become a problem, or is it up to date enough?

I only paid $30 CDN for mine, so I don't know how much cheaper you want.
The only other company I know of is PowerLeap, but they integrate the CPU into the card, and they're horribly over-priced.

Release notes of the 3.3 Bios :
This update adds support for PIII and Coppermine processors up to 800 MHz,
Celeron processors up to 500 MHz, and Hard drives over 32 GB. It also corrects SCSI and IDE boot conflicts for DOS, Windows 95 and Windows 98
The 3.3 Bios is the latest i know of

Hi.
I have an old NEC VT300i which has some old celeron processor.
I also have a newer PIII processor (700-900mhz?) I'd like to use with this system.
Is there a BIOS update which would allow this combination?
I have already installed the max memory (256) and put Ubuntu Linux on it, and if this could get a faster processor, it might just work to let the inlaws use the internet.

if it has the same mainboard as in this post: no problem. but make sure you'll get a model that has 100MHz fsb (and you're gonna pay for that, no doubt!). i recommend getting a 566/600 MHz celeron (fcpga package) and run it on 100MHz fsb 566->850/600->900 MHz. i've plenty of them running that way and they have a nice performance. you can get them from a huge online auction site for <5EUR (incl. shipping).
