Toshiba Satellite 1735 - CPU Update - Need Microcode

This laptop comes w/ a Celeron 700 by default. I purchased a 1GHz PIII as an upgrade, however the laptop identifies it a 700MHz PIII. Everest shows it as 88MHz x 7, which is even slower. So I think all I need is added microcode that supports my faster CPU. The BIOS is by Phoenix.

Also, the manual shows a limitation of only being able to add 128M in the single mem slot. I added a 256M module to see if it would work. The BIOS showed the memory, but Windows would not boot and cmplained of corrupted files. This seems more like a compatibility error with the 64M built in memory to me, or does it sound like another limitation in this laptop BIOS?

I've read many a post on this forum, but am not clear yet if this is something that can be fixed. Please let me know what I must do, and if it can be done. Thanks.

First of all, is your P3-1000 the FSB133 or FSB100 version? Your laptop might only support FSB100 CPUs.
Secondly, I'd try another SODIMM.

It's 100MHz bus (SL53S). The celeron is also. (SL4GX)

hmm, so Everest now shows a FSB of 99.5, not sue why it's different now. It would still be great to get that 300MHz extra. So is what I want doable?

That's a mobile Pentium 3 you have there. It's multiplier changes on-demand. Everest might not be too precise at detecting its total speed.

Ok. So it this something you or someone else can help me with? The BIOS I currently have installed is here:

Have you tried contacting Toshiba already?

No, I hadn't. The BIOS I have it the most recent on their site. I'm don't know what contacting them would accomplish. I doubt they would accomodate such a request, unless you know something different?

Sometimes they hold unpublished copies of newer beta releases which they may have prepared for other customers with the same problem. You 'might' be lucky.
