Hi this is wot I got

Km2m combo MS6378- Mainboard
DDR 512 - Memory
Win xp sp2
Duron 1800 266fsb - processor.

The problem i have is that my mainboard does not find my processor.
At the start up screen it stats: cpu unknown 2200+, then when windows starts, in system info it still stats, cpu unknown 1.8Ghz.

I have tried to flash the bios with an upto date bios (v1.4), but it wont let me copy the files from (floppy)a:\ to d:\ drive.

can anyone help me out please.

Dan.

Your board does not know anything about your new Duron so it thinks it's an Athlon XP 2200+ (with 256KB L2-Cache it would be a 2200+ Athlon XP).

Your CPU should work without problems, it's only a cosmetic issue.

What's the problem with reading files from Floppy to HDD ? Floppy error ? Floppy disk freshly formatted ?

This is what happens,

Made bios boot disc for win xp
restart pc
get command a:\ ok,
change floppy with new bios on
type copy *bios* to d:\ but it wont let me, get command error.

its a bit confusing i know.

pc seems to runs fine though. perhaps i should just leave it,
its abit annoying though, knowing something should be there but it isn't

The link that KURIAKI posted i followed that but couldn't change the drive letter in the bios apart from a:\ :?:

Thanks for you advice guys.

Maybe because the Floppy uses a different file system (FAT) than XP (NTFS), FAtr can't read NTFS.

Go to www.bootdisk.com and get the Basic-for Bios flashing Floppy creator. There's enough space for bios and flashprog to update your Bios

You don't need to copy files to d:
Use the second floppy and run Award flash from A:

awfl826b w6738vms.140 /py /sy /cc /r
Pick whatever name you want for your old BIOS backup, for example oldbios.bin
The last parameter /r reset the system automatically after flashing.
Enter the BIOS and set up all yours settings.

It should be noted that where possible, it is still a good idea to copy the flash utility and bin image to the local HDD. I recommend this to prevent encountering bad sectors and other problems on the floppy disk during the flash process.
