any one know how to set jumpers for my nec versapro va60h laptop (it only recognized my mobile p3 700 at 550 in winxp - when startup, bios shows 700)?

If the original proc was 550 it will most likely show that until you reinstall windows. There's no jumpers on this thing...

Apparently your BIOS recognises your P3700 correctly if the BIOS is already reporting the new CPU correctly.

So the hardware is already upgraded to P3700.

Windows will only report the processor change correctly after Windows is re-installed. Despite this the system is already running the P3700 processor.

Sorry it taken so long until you got a response. I did not know what to offer until I read this thread through again carefully just now.

bios shows my cpu = 700 but when running intel freq. util in DOS (with AC mode), the software still shows my cpu running at 550, what can i do to force it run at max speed?

I would be tempted to believe the BIOS as to what speed the CPU is running at.

Maybe others can offer opinions on this point. From what I am told software that detects and monitors CPU speeds, temperatures and fan speeds - are not always accurate. Personally I think the BIOS is more accurate as to what CPU is installed and what speed it is running at, and what amount of RAM the board has installed.

Use Everest Home or Sandra to check CPU speed, they usually use the Time stamp counter inside the CPU to verify it's speed.

despite bios shows my cpu = 700, both Everest Ultimate and Sandra Pro show my CPU running at 550!

Original or upgraded BIOS?

Perhaps what you are reading as '700' in the BIOS is only part of the description string the BIOS reads off the CPU.

If this is the case, the actual speed that the BIOS reports the CPU to be running at is a different thing and could be a different figure.

Have a close look through your BIOS post screen and any pages, including summary if available, for settings or info that display what actual speed your BIOS reports the CPU to be running at.

You may just find a 550MHz in there. (If you do, you may be able to adjust the bus or multiplier if you know for a fact that your CPU is really a 700MHz.)

maybe finally i found out the cause but not the solution: my p3 700/550 run at 1.65/1.35V but my celeron 600 run at 1.6V so i guess my system is locked at 1.6V, is there anyway to raise the voltage?

Is the thing "throttling" (like speed-step, etc...)?
