BIOS Updates forum

I just bought an AMD 1800+ XP processor chip and I want to install it within the next couple of day's. My question is, I am using an ECS K7VZA motherboard. It say's it can run up to 1.5 ghz, The chip I bought runs at 1.53ghz.. I was told this should be fine, but do I need to upgrade my bios for my computer to recognize it?

Windows XP
576 megabytes of SDRAM

From the product page it states it can support 1.2Ghz Tbirds at 100Mhz FSB. That means it uses a 12x multiplier. Now we know that the update supports Athlon XP processors, and they can't downgrade possible multipliers, only stay the same or go up. So 133Mhz FSB X 12.0X multiplier is 1596Mhz. More then you need for the processor.
In the most likely scenario is that the latest update has given more support for higher processors; I have seen this board with 1800+ XP processors on it.

Should be fine, as long as its PCB 3.X, not the older 1.X version.
