Hello!
Where can I find the last microcodes for P4 CPUs? I need them for 423-pin and 478-pin socket CPUs. Does anybody have the last pep.dat file (CPU microcode database) from Intel?

this is all I can find
http://www.cathedrallabs.org/~aris/acer/stepping/

the info you're asking for is only available to Intel channel partners under an NDA...

Yes, I know that it is not for public use.
I found another files, but they are too old too (2002 year) http://www.ixbt.com/cpu/utils/pep.zip http://www.ixbt.com/cpu/utils/checkup6.zip
Also it is possible to extract microcodes from system file "update.sys". Or from bios with the help of Cbrom.

I did with ctmc, I took the update.sys from the latest build of
Windows2003 server Sp1 & extracted the microcodes,
then remade 1 large microcode file with ctmc for use with
both the intel update utility & the acer one...
The microcode package can be Downloaded here.

I was recently learning about all this.

What is the purpose of putting the microcodes in the BIOS, when you can add them by using a different update.sys?

Thanks.

You cannot always use an update.sys

Thanks edwin for that very astute reply.

Can you elaborate why?

Again, I know nothing about this.

Thanks.
