thanks guys i just added a samsung syncmaster 941bw widescreen monitor to this pavillion a465w and 1440x900 is not available. the mb is an asus A7V8X-LA (Kamet 2) and the bios number is 6A6LYA0DC it's dated 11/01/2004 but hp posted it on 02/2005.

BIOS Type: Award
BIOS Date: 11-01-2004
BIOS ID: 11/01/2004-KM400-8237-6A6LYA0DC-00
Motherboard: HP/ASUS A7V8X-LA (Kamet 2)

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp26001-26500/sp26464.exe

they only have a windows install version of the bios(link above) but i have it installed so if there is a way for me to save it and e-mail it in i'd be happy too. thanks in advance for any help or information.

KM400 is a VIA chipset. nothing we could patch. get the latest S3 vga drivers and install the monitor's .inf file or make sure it's set to plug&play monitor.

some manufacturers manage to scr*w up their bios so it won't allow 1440x900 and I don't know if via has released a bios-independent driver for windows yet?

i really don't know if it is the fault of the bios manufacturer. the video bios contains a timing table for various resolutions. the driver reads the table and offers those supported by the monitor. additional table entries (or the whole table) _could_ be calculated by the driver. i don't really know what's easier to exchange: a video bios binary embedded in a crc protected bios file which is stored in a flash chip or a driver file stored on a harddisk.

most recent Windows XP driver are here:
