K7S41-GX has a rather recent SIS Video Bios with support for some widesreen resolutions but not for all of them. I don't think there's a newer/better Video Bios to support more resolutions.

AsRock board
http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=K7S41GX

from the FAQ it says to update to bios P2.50 or newer and your driver to version 3.73 for 1440x900 resolution support.

@Deniss: is there knowledge about what resolutions are supported in what version of the SiS vbioses?

i tried decoding the inbuild modelines a while ago but i didn't get anything useful. at least nothing that would have told me how those modelines in the bios exactly work. i'll take another look at it (with the help of the Linux driver sources) when the summer is over. sorry guys to keep you waiting ;)
