Video resolution problems

Hi everyone,

New on this forum.
I'm not sure to post in the right place but I'm wondering if anyone can help me about a problem:

I had a monitor 800 x 600 resolution on SiS 530 hardware. The monitor was out and I bought a new one with 1024 x 768 resolution, but now I've a low quality image:the monitor is full enlighted but the image resolution is low as the image appears "raw",more than the old monitor.
I downloaded the updated driver from the web but without results;

Doesn't SiS 530 support 1024 x 768 resolution?
Have I to set something in the BIOS?
Have I to set something in the screen settings ?

Any helpful advice will be appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Regards

Sure it supports it. Perhaps you need to select a different refresh rate.

This is onboard, right? How much memory is allotted? What color depth and refresh rate are you attempting?

Hi,
This is onboard, right?
What do you refer?

However,my current settings are:

800 x 600 resolution

16.8 millions of colors (32 bit)

refresh frequency AUTO (I tried all the supported frequencies...)

memory 8 Mb (my BIOS doesn't allow more...)

Thanks for interesting

Bye

Try 16-Bit colours
It's possible the RAMDAC is of low quality thus having bad image quality on higher resolutions.

Sorry,

No 16 bit colours

only 256 63,000 16,000,000 colours

The problem is still there...

If memory serves well, in Windows 98, device manager is one of the tabs under the System icon in Control Panel.

Device Manager will show you a detailed list of internal and external devices Windows has identified and installed. There will be a display category and should be a monitor category. If you open these categories up you can see the name of the installed device (which device manager thinks is correct - sometimes the wrong device may be installed. However at this point and for your purposes the information can be considered accurate for now).

Thanks for the answer Ritchie. :D
I found the device manager and it displays a generic "Plug&Play" monitor with a generic "Microsoft" driver.
So,I think there is a problem, but how can I solve it?
I already attempt to install the monitor driver but this shows that I made some mistake. :(

How can I do?

Hoping you come across this thread...
Otherwise I appeal to anyone able to address me on the right way.

Thanks
