1680 x 1050 support - samsung wide screen

hi, i need a patch or something to make my computer support 1680 x 1050. It is a 20" wide screen samsung monitor.
I installed the latest driver, and it allowed me to choose 1680 x 1050, but when i move the pointer over and click submit, the screen becomes black, and goes back to the 1280 x 1024 page.

Monitor - Samsung SyncMaster 206 BW, 20" Wide Screen
Resolution needed - 1680 x 1050
Motherboard
manufacturer - ECS
model - K7SOM+
chip - SiS 650_651_M650_M652_740
