Mainboard: MicroStar MS6163 ver1 (NOT Pro version)
Award Modular Bios v4.51PG
W6163MJ v.2.2.041699

The HD is trashed on my old pc and I have a new Maxtor 40Gb IDE that I wish to use.
I think I have to upgrade the Bios to read the larger HD.
I believe that I need to download "w6163v27.exe" from the MicroStar site as the most appropriate upgrade, but if you know of a more suitable upgrade please advise.

Qu 1. Will I be able to download this to another pc, save to a floppy or a CD and then use that to load the new Bios on my old MicroStar pc, or do I have to have a working HD in order to upgrade?

Qu 2. Will the above Bios upgrade be able to read a 40Gb HD?

Have I missed anything vital?
Thanks for any information that will help. Wish me luck......

1) Create a bootable floppy and unzip the BIOS upgrade there.
2) Yes

Bios now upgraded, HD now recognised... I'm happy.

Once again, Rainbow, thank you for giving me the confidence to do it.
